3 Types of Blogposts that Works Best on Pinterest

There are 3 types of content that do well on Pinterest. They are:

  1. Informational posts
  2. Listicles & Round Up posts
  3. “Get me in a Round Up post” Content

1. Informational Posts:

These are descriptive or explanatory posts that cover one topic in detail. A common example is the “How To” posts.

  • How to lose 2 Pounds in a month
  • How to invest in stock markets
  • How to become a photographer
  • What food is best for dogs?
  • Which is healthy – tea or coffee?
  • Vanilla cream cake – Recipe guide
  • Beginners guide to drawing

Since the post mostly covers just one topic (or a few at max), people would be restricted to saving limited pins or images within your blog.

Text on Background Image (TOBI) pins are recommended for informational posts. Below are two examples

2. Listicles

These are posts which are essentially a list of content. They are relatively easy to make. Some examples include:

  • 20 Best Christmas Cake Recipes
  • 30 Engaging Craft Ideas for Kids
  • 150 Inspiring Quotes on Life
  • 25 Front Porch Decor Ideas

For each list item, an image has to be added. Ie, for a post on “25 front porch decor ideas”, for each decor idea, an image has to be added (25 images in total).

You can create a list of products also and use affiliate links to enhance your income. For example, a list post of Amazon products such as:

  • 10 Best Kitchen Appliances
  • 20 Top Mobile Phones Under $300

Pin creation is also easy for such posts. A TOBI post with single image as well as matrix design with multiple images are recommended. You can also directly pin the original images embedded in the blogpost for each list item. You can also create a separate pin for each of the mentioned pin item.

Below are two examples of matrix-like designs. 3X3, 4×4, 5×3 matrix with text content in center is commonly seen.

Below are two examples of listicle pin with single image and text content, the standard TOBI pin.

Round Up Posts

Round up posts are a sub-part of listicles essentially. The difference is that for a round up post, you use content made by others.

For example, a round up is where you list down 10 best cake recipes from cooking experts rather than your own recipes. It is essentially grouping a number of high quality posts by others to make a post of your own – a simple & fast way.

https://www.prudentpennypincher.com/christmas-desserts-for-kids/ – Here is an example of a good round up post

In this post, PPP has linked to 25 different recipes giving credit to the content creator & directly linking to original recipe post. It’s clearly a win-win for both the sides. PPP has got a post whereas the recipes listed will get free traffic without any efforts!

Recommended: Try to use Pinterest embeds to directly embed the pins from other creators in your blog. Below is an example of pin embedding.

Open the pin, click on the three dot menu icon & a pop up with “Get Pin embed code” will come up like below.

Click on “Get Pin embed code” and you will find the code. Copy paste the code to your blog. Themes like Generatepress provide embed feature by default. Use a HTML embed plugin if needed.

It’s just a matter of creating click-worthy pins now. Below is a beautiful pin TOBI pin made for the same content!

Roundup posts are perfect for beginners & new bloggers. Because when you start out with zero content, it’s much faster to create round up posts. If you do not have time to write full-fledged blogposts, round up posts are a simple alternative.

Moreover, AI has made creation of such posts super simple. Just ask ChatGPT or Gemini for “make a list post of 10 fall decor ideas with images for each idea” and you will get the base content. It’s just building on top of that.

3. “Get me in a Round Up Post” Content

You can either make a round up post or try to get featured in a round post.

In this method, the strategy is to create posts that are a perfect fit to get featured in round up posts (recipes, crafts, etc are perfect candidates). Once you have the posts ready, send a mail to the creators of roundup posts in that topic informing them about your new post & request them to add your content on the list.

Tip: Do not just send a link alone. Share with a complete write up – title, description, link & image in the same format as the target roundup post. This will make the job of roundup post creator easy & increase your chances of getting your request accepted. Just hint that it would be great if your content can be featured on top of the list also. Because we all know the top ideas get the most visibility & clicks (just like in Google SERPs!)

To share an example, instead of creating “25 Christmas Dessert for Kids” post like earlier, you create a “Easy Snowman Cupcake” recipe like below and then request sites like PPP & others to add your content in their roundup posts.

The best part is that once your content is accepted, the owner of roundup post will get you traffic forever through their pins. You will also get exposed to new audience & followers this way. It’s a powerful method.

Please note that you can directly create TOBI & image pins for these posts & promote directly also. It’s a double edged sword.
