Welcome to the income report for 3rd month of The Blog Strategist.
As expected, it was another disappointing month for me as I hardly spent any time or effort on TBS.
Before we look at more updates, let’s have a look at the 3 goals I kept for November:
- Publish 20 blog posts in total (of genuine value) – ie, 13 new posts
- Publish “Privacy Policy” page – which I didn’t in October
- Create a Pinterest account for The Blog Strategist – which I didn’t in October
November 2024 Traffic Report:
Let’s see how the month of November 2024 went in detail.
- Total No of Users = 10 (vs 9 last month)
- Total No of New Users = 7 (vs 9 last month)
- Total Sessions = 10 (vs 11 last month)
- Avg. Engagement Time = 1 min 10 sec (vs 57 sec last month)
- No of Posts = 4 (vs 7 last month)
I only had 10 visitors overall, of which 2-3 visits are from myself only. As you can see, only 7 new users in November vs 9 last month!
Only 3 of the users were organic, others were direct users. Also, the number of countries this month has also been lower than October.
Overall, a disappointing month!
The results are worse than what I achieved in October on almost all metrics & it’s time I stepped up my efforts.
One good news is that The Blog Strategist started showing up in Google search.
And if you search directly for “the blog strategist .com”, multiple pages are getting shown.
So, one happy news is that Google has started indexing my site.
And the sad news is that I didn’t make much progress in the last month.
I haven’t published a single blog post since 4th of Nov. For some reason, I’m losing motivation after the initial few days in a month.
And given my current situation of low motivation, I’ve decided to bring in a new system – something I closely use in corporate world.
It’s “Weekly Progress Tracking”.
If we feel that tracking a higher timeframe is not enough, we move to tracking lower time frames. So, from December onwards, I’ve decided to publish weekly reports.
It will not be detailed traffic reports, it’ll just a brief progress report. I’ll keep it simple calling out my wins & losses and keep myself accountable. I hope this will push me to spend more time on TBS.
Coming to content, I still only have 12 published posts as of now (4 in month 1, 7 in month 2 & 1 this month as of now). As you know, I’ve been blogging for a few years now & I already have some content I’ve written on blogging in the past. Some of the initial posts were recreated from my old content. I still have another couple of good posts which I’ve made in the past, but I’m failing to post them somehow.
I published the below posts in November:
- 5 Reasons Your Blog Will Fail Within the Year (And How to Avoid It)
- October 2024 – Traffic Report (2nd Month, 7 posts & 9 visitors)
- Which Blog Plugins Should you Use? (3 Plugins I Recommend)
- 4 Must-Do SEO Settings in WordPress (to Make Google Happy)
Let’s come to my targets & achievements for last month.
Comparing to my targets, the current progress is:
- Publish 20 blog posts in total (of genuine value) – ie, 13 new posts
- Published 11 posts as of Nov, ie only 4 new posts
- Publish “Privacy Policy” page – which I didn’t in October
- Didn’t publish in Nov also
- Create a Pinterest account for The Blog Strategist – which I didn’t in October
- Didn’t create in Nov also
Overall, a very disappointing progress update. If it was the old me who was new to blogging, I would have been extremely disappointed & frustrated by the results. But I realize that blogging is a long-term process, it takes time.
Of course, I have to put dedicated efforts as well to see results (apart from being patient). But I’m determined to see it through. Results or no results, I am determined to build The Blog Strategist to a website where any new blogger can avail blogging information for free. I wish for TBS to be the ultimate blogging course – better than (or at least in par with) the $1997 courses out there. I’ll continue working towards this goal – it’s a personal challenge I have taken up & I’ll see it through. I’m quite sure I’ll have over 100K monthly visitors to this blog the same time next year.
What are my plans for December?
Below are my goals for December:
- Publish weekly reports for all 4 weeks in December
- Publish 25 blog posts in total (of genuine value) – i.e., 14 new posts
- Publish “Privacy Policy” page – which I couldn’t yet
- Create a Pinterest account for The Blog Strategist – which I couldn’t yet
I have limited my goals to just 4 for this month. Let’s see how it goes!
The November Story
I lost my focus in November. I know TBS is a passion project that I want to scale up, but I somehow got consumed by a new website idea. Again, like tens of blogs I built before, I set up a new blog in career counselling & job preparation niche. I made a business plan, built the home page, wrote a post & then came to the realization that TBS is my priority – and the month was over by then.
It’s one of the biggest blogging challenges that has plagued me till date – losing focus & chasing something else midway. Because TBS is at a nascent stage, there’s months if not years of work to be done. So, the thought of creating a more simpler blog, at times gets to you. Looking back, I realize this.
The entire business model I had for the career counselling blog is not feasible for my current lifestyle (I can’t pull that off along with a full-time corporate job). TBS is a perfect challenge for me – it’s completely online, it’s about a topic I love & have been following for years and more importantly it’s like a stress buster hobby activity for me.
In short, I lost focus & I was late to realize what happened. But I’m back to my senses again. Reflections like traffic reports or personal journaling are very important for bloggers – it helps you reflect & figure out things before they get worse. Having a monthly report makes me accountable, it helps me to stay true to the path & not wander off. Going forward, I believe the weekly reports will keep me even more accountable. Let’s see.
That’s all for November.
See you in the Week 1 progress report for December!
Let me know your thoughts on the comments section below. I know things could have been better, but hey, something is better than nothing. Also, there’s no point in worrying because I’m taking this challenge slow – the goal is to build an ultimate free blogging course, but over a period of time, in peace, without any hurries. And that’s me justifying my failure last month haha!
